Christmas is a few days away, and I'm ready for it. I just did a tally
-- I made 75 gifts in 2008; about half of them were given for
birthdays, and the rest are sitting under various trees, waiting to be
opened for Christmas. There were many more handmade cards made and
sent throughout the year. I'm hosting a dinner for 17 on Thursday, the
grocery shopping's done, and I've started on the desserts and
appetizers.
Yay! It feels good to be prepared. Thanks, Teresa, for your
encouragement throughout the year. Even with a full time job I've
managed to stay on top of it, by doing a little every week.
Wishing you all a very very merry Christmas filled with peace and joy.

My son's quilt is pieced and basted, but I couldn't find anyone to machine-quilt it for me in the last week before Christmas. So I'm giving it to him in its current state, and will take it back to complete it in the New Year.

Not having a baby handy, I used a very endearing monkey to test out my SIL's baby wrap.

Hashi - I am awestruck - i thought the ones I did were a huge amount - but you have really jumped in and done an amazing job. i laughed at the caption on your son's quilt. been there - done that. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

About four weeks ago I gave my family the url for the Christmas
Boutique (a fickr site where I posted photos of all the gifts I had
made throughout the year), and asked them to select what they wanted.
Many asked for variations on the color schemes shown, and a few asked
for things I hadn't thought to make. This kept me busy for the past
month, but at last I have all the overseas gifts ready to wrap and
mail tomorrow.
I've made:
Set of 8 placemats and napkins for a niece
Mesh produce bags for a sister and sister-in-law
A little shoulder bag for a daughter
Hacky sacks in requested colours (I dyed the cotton!) for a brother
and his two kids
Three tote-able towels
I also got 50 Christmas cards completed and in the mail. I have been
making these throughout the year with fabric scraps from my sewing
projects.
One of our traditions is that I give everyone in the immediate family
(including myself) new pyjamas which we open on Christmas Eve. This
past month I made my children's PJs (my husband's were made earlier in
the year.)
So now I just have the US family's gifts to complete. I plan to make
some baby shoes, a baby wrap, a nursing coverup, a knitted beret, a
quilt, and some fingerless gloves. Better get to it!!!

Since my last post I've accumulated a few more things for Christmas.
A sundress for a big niece, and a dress/shirt combo for a little niece.
Dog leashes, in both evening and morning shades.
Wipe-clean coasters and cloth napkins.
A fleece robe or two.
And another cape for a super six-year-old.
Christmas is nearly here! Ack! I still have 16 more gifts to make!!

Lori - a wee little bunny

Something on my list has been accomplished! An itty bitty bunny for my niece. This is part of a larger gift that is still in stages of planning and cutting and sewing, but at least I have ONE finished product.

And I have a plan for a few more gifts. I'm going to make a few stationary sets for some friends with personalized notecards wrapped up in a fabric case. Yep, indeed, one of these days, I'm going to make them. :)

What a busy summer it has been. Between the kid things and belly dancing and costume making, the summer has flown. Next up, more costumes, for our Renaissance Festival and Halloween, and then Christmas will be upon us. At least I have a few handmade things ready to go. Thanks, Teresa, for the motivation!

I completed these this weekend.
(1) A needle case. Unlike most needle cases which do not organize or
identify the needles in any fashion, this design allows you to keep
them in their packets, so you can easily find the right needle for the
job. I'll be gifting it with eight assorted packets of needles.
(2) Child's pyjamas. In preparation for this project, I went to the
fabric store to peruse the knits. While there, I suddenly remembered
that I had many yards of cream-coloured knit fabric in my stash. So I
came home and dyed some of it. I was disappointed with how pale the
colours turned out; I guess it's because of the synthetic content in
the fabric. So I went back to the store for some strongly coloured
ribbing to tie it all together. I'm pretty happy with the end result,
and hope my nephew is too.
I'm now done with the July birthdays. On to August (only a few) and
September (8 people!)

Well, I think I mentioned in my last email that I have a TON of July birthdays; I made gifts for them all, and am now working through the list again to put aside Christmas presents for them all. So far it's mainly aprons and shopping bags.The totes are my own design, based on the size and shape of a paper supermarket bag. In some cases, I dyed the cotton webbing to match the fabric. I had a lot of fun with those.I also bought a great book called A Is For Apron and have made several of the patterns from it for various family members.Then there's the little sundress for my baby niece ... more baby clothes on the way!Cheers,Hashi

My April project is also done. Another gift for my niece to remember Christmas 07 at Disney World. Yeah, I'm soppy and sentimental. A shadow box from the Martha Stewart line at Michaels. I painted it pink and added some princess stickers to make it more girly.

Hi Teresa,

I had a bunch of half done WIPs. So for the last month or so I've been finishing up some of them. Including my March project.

At Christmas 07 hubby and I, his parents, sister and her 3 year old daughter went to Disney World. Our niece had a blast. It was her first trip to any Disney Park. I wanted her to remember it for aIong time. To help her I made a scrapbook to commemorate her trip.

I have been reading Nancy's blog for some time now. It is such a soft and pretty place to visit. This little note from a recent post just tickled my fancy. I tend to write notes to my self on almost anything handy, but I always try to dress up the ones in my packages. This is just cool that there is no pretense in the gift. To me this is beautiful impromptu note.

Better late than never!!! I crocheted this scarf with a really thick and chunky yarn, with a big hook. I added long fringe and it is so soft and long and warm:) This will most likely go to my BFF in WA for Christmas:)

Hi, Teresa - Well, here we are at the end of May, and I'm checking in for the first time this year. I have a decent reason, I think...I'm 4 1/2 months pregnant! We couldn't be happier...it just meant that I did no sewing or crafting of any kind for a few months while I dealt with first trimester symptoms and tried to keep up with my two year old. But I feel great now and have recently realized that, if I want to give any handmade gifts this Christmas, I will have to have them done before baby arrives in October. So here is what I have accomplished so far.

The first photo is a work in progress. It will be a snowflake wall hanging for a friend who always decorates her home seasonally.

The second photo is of "crazy crayons" (directions courtesy of Martha Stewart). They will be combined with coloring books for a few of my daughter's friends and for my daughter's stocking.

The third photo, the apron, is for a friend who loves blue and red together. I hope to add some additional matching kitchen linens to the gift....we'll see. :)

Thanks for your patience! It has been fun to keep up with what others are doing.

Here we go, back on track. I am determined to catch up within the next few weeks. Here is my CIP for March. They are sweet little closet sachets that I will fill with dried citrus peels and spices. Hi! I'm just checking in with a few things I have been up to. I finished two throw blankets, one for my brother and one for my brother-in-law. A third is in the works for the other brother-in-law. These were so quick and easy and the fabric is so wonderful, I think I may need to make three more.

I also assembled my pennant/banner for January. I had such fun assembling your items to make this! I am not sure what I will do with these as a finished project, so I have left the back unfinished for now, although I did cut a blue solid to keep with it.

I can't wait to see what everyone else is making for the season!

I totally feel like I've been MIA lately....I seem to be in a serious craft funk. I've gotten a few little things done, but wish I could be doing more. I've finished a knit button scarf, two zippered pouches and one cloth napkin. The pouches will be filled with little beauty goodies for my sisters in law (I plan on making several more for other gifts) and I've decided to make cloth napkins for all my siblings and their spouses (one for each member of the household - maybe two each if I get ambitious) so I have one done and about 50 to go:) I cut a few more out and it will be a great stash busting project. All my nieces and nephews will get pillowcases with their name embroidered on them. Hopefully my next update won't be too far away!-Raesha

Raesha - I adore the little zipper pouches. I'll be making several of this type for miss Molly as she takes off to college. Sorry for being so far behind, one or two things have got in the way!!!

I now have 2 pairs of these gloves made.

The string/cotton bag was a hoot to make as I read the pattern incorrectly and it was huge until I undid it and started again! These are so easy to make and screw up small so can fit in a pocket or corner of your handbag! I think most people will get these this year especially if i can find some more cotton like this!

The Moebius (scarf) is a continuos circle with a twist in it, I have 2 of these done too!

We have visitors over Easter so once they have gone I shall crack on as I have some sewing to do for Christmas as well!!!

Here's a couple more things I've completed today: three manly aprons
(two adult-sized, one tween-sized) plus a cape for SuperGeorge. Now

Hello everyone,
I've covered my birthday and Christmas gifts up till the end of May,
with one exception: I have the fabric ready to make my son's pyjamas,
but I'm worried he's going to have a growth spurt this year. He's
nearly 17, and could conceivably jump from a medium to a large by
December. So although he's an April birthday, I'm going to wait till
later in the year before committing to his pj's.
But here's what I've put away for Christmas this month: Two sets of
bibs, a set of potholders, and an "I Spy" blanket.
I'm about to start a full time job with a long commute so I'm trying
to get ahead of the game before my crafting time is slashed. I have
TEN July birthdays so I'm already planning those!!

One of the beanies I made last month got commandeered by my son, so I

Hi Teresa, Feeling better yet? I am submitting a CIP for January and hopefully will catch up with Feb's by this weekend. This is a simple button neckscarf for my mom. The pale robin's egg blue is from a felted cashmere sweater, the silky paisley was sent to me by a friend. The buttons are from my ever-expanding collection of vintage. The scarf is totally reversible.

Yay for me. With this gift I am caught up and I intendt keep it thus all year. My promise to me.This bag is from a Threads magazine pattern I foundonline. The fabrics are thrift store finds as is thetrim. This is a gift for one of my co-workers.Vallen

Hi, Teresa!Hey, how did it get to be the end of January already? I'm still recovering from Christmas.Here's what is occupying my brain at the moment, but none of my projects for January are completed.

1. Turning the stack of Christmas cards from my office (see the attached picture) into gift tags and boxes (made according to the tutorial here via Junie).

2. I have 3 button scarves from Simple Gifts to Stitch in the works for my 3 sisters-in-laws. The button scarf is also the current project for Finny & Donk's sewing adventure. You can see examples and join in here. So far I've made my fabric selections and felted some wool, but no acutal cutting or sewing yet.

Hello ladies -- January

Seems January is almost over. Another year is flying by. I have something for each of you going in the mail today.

I pondered the random nature of the "elf mail" packages last year and realized that just did not do it for me. So, coming to that conclusion, I have a project/proposal for each of you. The picture above is the pennant I created for January. I plan on completing one every month and stringing them together in my new studio. Because we all prefer different media, here is the proposal for the project. I hope all of you will make a similar pennant banner.

I will send you "elf mail" every month. This month's package contains a copy of the pennant pattern that I used for this. I will also send one item I would like everyone to use in their pennant project. (Labeled main figure)

I would like for you to choose a background of your liking and use this main figure to complete your pennant each month. Everything else is just for fun.

Each package will include embellishments that would be appropriate for completing the project. You can use these or save these or regift these. In other words - they be yours to use as you like. (for example this months embellishments pack includes the buttons like the ones I used. )

On the bottom of the letter in each package I will include the month drawing that I used for my project. (You can barely see the word January in the picture. It is embroidered in krenik sparkle braid.)

I hope you will send me pictures of your pennants as you make them - and I hope this blurb makes sense.

The rationale behind this. I am accountable to send a package each month. I make a small dent in the hoarded stash at my house. You get a project that allows you to dig into your stash and just play. I get something I have made to keep for myself. We all get to see the inspiring images from each other. Hope you will all play along.

Note - this was hanging on the tv cabinet this morning - both my girls think he is cute and can't wait to see what I pull out for next month. Mine is made on some 1970's bathrobe fleece that used to be part of the costumes at the church. I crocheted a semblance of a hat. The arms are some plastic frosted branches that came from somewhere. The entire project including what I mailed each of you qualifies for I used what I had.

My goal for 2008 is to make Christmas gifts at the same time as I
make birthday gifts. I have four January birthdays, so I have made
four extra gifts to put away for Christmas: a square fabric mini-
purse, a beanie, a messenger bag, and a travel wallet. -- Hashi

Happy 2008 - Welcome to CIP 2008 - just a few "suggestions" for players.

Starting anew. I have received emails from some saying they are on board for 2008. I am here and ready to lead again. This was fun for me last year. I am limiting the group to a total of 15 including myself this time again. More than that and it gets a little difficult to manage. Of course anyone can play along and I will post a link to their blog as the information come in.

Again this is a very flexible program. Cater it to your needs and whims. My approach will be a little different - instead of a big list of gifts, my plan of attack is to list a monthly plan and status report against my entire list of people. See MaryAnn's post about her Christmas List Journal.

I will still do a few mailings through the years to the core group. Remember this is supposed to be a fun and low key challenge. I will still post your progress every month with pictures and links to your blogs.

Nothing like - just in time

I finished this pillow - literally just in time on Monday. This was a mutation of one of the ideas from the very beginning of this project. A gift for my Aunt - it qualifies for all of my challenges this year.

I used what I had. linen even weave fabric in a wonderful pale soft green, hand dyed floss, upholstry fabric in the colors of her home, fiberfill, and even a touch of vintage lace arond the center. I even graphed it on paper I copied off the edge of a design I already had.

I made it for her. She was one of my original list on CIP.

I added my money to the UWIH box. Let me tell you - that box has been robbed often. The money goes in there as mostly quarters and we are taking clothes to the laundromat. So we steal these quarters. It's okay - it's even necessary - and it has less impact than coming up with the number of quarters we need from other sources.

I have one more thing to post, but we have not had that family gathering and the recipient is a reader. That is still to be shown here.

CIP 2007 has come to a close - I'll be back at the beginning of 2008 with a new list here for myself. There are some who wish to still participate and if you are one of them - please comment here or shoot me an email to teresahome@juno.com. I had a wonderful time playing with all of you. I didn't finish my list exactly as planned, but I did accomplish so much more than in years past and it was definitely less stressful.

Well, I too have strayed far from my list over the summer. Several of the items on my list ended up being birthday presents instead (which is still okay!:)) I have been working slowly on presents. These journals and scarves are the latest items I have been working on. The bird charms were for a swap and I made several extras to add to my growing Christmas present pile. My goal for this upcoming weekend is to print out my list of everyone that will be getting a present and go through what I've finished already and see exactly where I am. Here is my August project for CIP. Sorry I missed the past few months - I think I'm back on track now and ready to get lots of gifts done in the next few months. This bulletin board is for my sister-in-law. The idea is from the Martha Stewart Holidays magazine from last year. Super easy to make! The background fabric is linen, covered with grosgrain ribbon and old trims I've picked up at garage sales and thrift stores.

My family is REALLY large, and the adults don't exchange individual gifts.
Instead, we host a white elephant spin-off that's far less expensive and
far more fun. So, while I started out with gusto and lots of pictures for
the CIP projects of nearby friends and kids in my family, I've narrowed
the list down to blog friends. I'm still just as enthusiastic about
participating, but I can't share as many pictures as I'd like for fear
that the intended recipient will see her present. So, I'll do the best I

Firstly, thank you so much for the crocheted sunflower and gift tags. Thanks especially for providing the pattern for the flower. Very cool! I am sure I will adapt it for some of my projects.
This month I've making gifts from thrifted materials. An apron made from a pillowcase. A patchwork clutch purse, made mostly from clothes off the dollar rack. And a handbag made from tea towels.

Dear Teresa,

First of all many thanks for your lovely little parcel that arrived safely. I adored the sunflower and had been struggling to think of a little pressie I could send to a blog friend for her birthday, so I adapted your design and made a rosette. Sadly I had left it so late that I posted it with out remembering to take a pic!!! But hopefully she will post a pic on her blog and then I can send you a copy!

I have not been too well recently so have had the old knitting needles clicking away. The socks are for hubby and I am so thrilled as I have never knitted them before. I used 4 needles too!!!!!
The scarfs you may recognise, I think you will all agree that the black is far better than the red I used in the last scarf, this will be for either my youngest daughter or one of my god daughters! The pink/purple for one of my neices!

Still raining here so off to think up some new ideas for knitting!!

And Rachael again for May

These two adorable Christmas Trees are now ready to be given away. Although I really don't want to part with either of them. They are so cute. Neither tree is made by me. They were both bought in after Christmas sales. I couldn't just give them as is. They both of have lots of little pieces that could be easily lost. So my Christmas in Progress project for MAY was to find someway to store all the bits.
First up a wooden advent calendar.
The blue bag holds the base, the white bag holds all the decorations. And they are all stored inside the striped bag. It also now has an embroided patch on the front that says "A Christmas Tree for XXXXXX from Rachael and Dave, 2007". MMM I just realised looking at the photo, that the quilting only goes one way. Ooops. Oh well. It still looks okay.
Secondly a red sparkly, glittery tree. How hard is it going to be to part with this?
I made one bag for all the little pieces and one big bag to store the lot in. Again this bag also has a patch on the front that says "A Christmas Tree for XXXX from Rachael and Dave, 2007".
Nothing fancy. Just drawstring bags. Now I'm thinking, I should have made mini zippered totes with an inside zippered pocket for the smaller pieces.

Rachael - busy lady - sends april in too

My April project? To start making the Christmas Crackers for Christmas Dinner.
Usually I leave them right up until the last minute. Infact last year, I madly phoned a friend on the 23rd looking for extra toilet paper rolls, because apparently hubby and I don't use enough in the month before Christmas to make enough crackers for 8 people!
This year I was determined that would not happen again. I have been saving toilet paper rolls since, well since last Christmas. And at the beginning of April I had enough. Actually more than enough. I now have 12 crackers. So with a bit of luck there will only be 6 of us for dinner this year, and then I will be ready for next year as well.
Inside each cracker is: the cracker snap, a joke and a tissue paper hat. Still to add: a Christmas themed Scratch and Win, a chocolate and a small gift.
They will be added closer to Christmas. But apart from that they are all done. The ribbon is cut to tie up the still open end. So the will be easy to finish.

I know - what is someone else's challenge logo doing in here. Well, because I multitask and this particular giftie fits the profile for that challenge. All of you group members should see a package very quickly with just a few things in it.

These are tiny little gift enclosure cards. Every single one is different. I do feel comfortable showing you these because there are 90 of them total and this is just a random sampling.

I used lots and lots of different things for these. I started by folding scrapbook card stock pieces. Then I stamped the monograms for the fronts on old thrifted book pages. I cut those out and then let the fun part start.

There are die cuts. Ribbon. Trims. Stickers. Images I punched from things. Lace. Some have stamped images.

I had no plan of attack when I started these. I packaged the cards and the monograms in those little plastic sleevs and then embellished as the mood struck. When I tired of a style, I simply started another. Worked on them in the evenings in little bits of time.

I would stack the whole shebang on a tray so I could drag it out and work for a few minutes if I chose to. This is a habit I have discussed over on the MaggieGrace blog.

I would love some feedback for one of my items. Calendar pages for 2008. I would like to do a fabric "charm square" calendar. The idea. 8-1/2 x 11 pages with a small monthly calendar on it in black and white. Each month will have three 4" Fabric "charm squares" on the page. I would mount these using srapbook paper or sheet music or wall paper etc. behind them in photo corners. (I know all of you crafters - you will probably disassemble the thing immediately so if I add the scrapbook papers behind the fabric, the calendar would still be "pretty" ) This would give you 36 squares of fabric - enough for a doll quilt or totebag front etc. I could tie the entire thing together with enough seam binding or sashing fabric to finish the front of a doll quilt. This would be a scrappy project. There would not be a "theme" for the calendar project as a whole. I would attempt to be sure each individual calendar was coherant. Both the fabric and the paper squares would be removable as project fodder. Is this something you would buy if it were available to you in this form??? It is something you would enjoy having around your workspace? Would you be pleased to receive this as a gift??

I'm sending pictures of my current WIPs. The grey piece is going to be a baby sweater. We are expecting several babies in our family and I am hoping this sweater will work for a boy or a girl (I'm planning on weaving some pink ribbon in for trim if it's for a girl). The cream piece is going to be a neck warmer. I have been working on it for a very long time. I hope to make more, but will definitely be using larger needles next time! Hopefully I will actually have a completed project to share for June!

One of the items on my list was something Noah's Ark for my sister. This is the WIP for that item. The needlework store called this thread painting. I call it a huge pain in the you know what. But I am pleased. It is just long and drawn out to get the coverage I need for this. 4 strands of floss for most of it. But the sheep body is a beautiful twisted wool.

This will become the "window" of the ark and will have a quilt ark and water around it.

Whilst its been raining so much there has been smoke coming from my knitting needles, so I'm trolling along quite nicely now!!!

The first pic is a wrap I've made for my eldest daughter. The little hat is for my Great Neice. The gloves are very 'Goth' like and are for my God daughter as was the scarf except I don't like it I will make it with black fluffy wool next time.

I've bought some double pointed needles and intend to have a go at some socks!!! I also found a pattern for some knitted jewelery!!!!

Way back when, Teresa sent us a package of adorable goodies and some questions about celebrating Christmas.

I'm a little late in responding but here goes..

Does Santa wrap the gifts?
When I was a kid, he did not. Santa gifts were left in a sack at the end of our beds. We didn't have stockings. Big and little gifts were in the sack. Santa was very stealthy - he could get in and out of our rooms with out waking two very excited kids. Now Santa gifts are wrapped and left under the tree. Stocking stuffers are also wrapped before being stuffed in the stockings.

What Christmas traditions do you hope your children take into adulthood?
We don't have kids, but if we did I would like them to keep these traditions:
Christmas is for family
Putting the baby Jesus in the nativity last thing on Christmas Eve.
Advent calendar - a mix of an activity to share with the whole family or small gift each day from Dec 1st to 24th
Adding a new decoration each year
Giving gifts to those less fortunate - either adopting a family, or giving up one of their own gifts
Christmas crackers

Handmade or Store Bought Stockings
We have both. At our house we have 2 store bought. When we go to the in laws we have handmade.

Live or artificial tree
At our house we have a small (3ft) white artificial tree. If it's going to be artificial, it will be very artificial! At the in laws were we actually spend Christmas - a real tree.

Hi there,

We have had so much rain recently that, you'll be pleased to hear, I took the opportunity to do a Christmas Present!
Modelled by my daughter, these will be for my mum!
I also took the opportunity to purchase some more wool!!! The one on the left I hope to have a go at a pair of socks for my hubby, I have never knitted socks before so should be a challenge! The wool on the right I hope to knit a handbag and felt it, for my eldest daughter, again I have never done felting either!!! The girly pink one I hope to do a long pair of lacy fingerless gloves and a broompole scarf (don't ask!) for my youngest neice. The others I haven't quite decided, but at least I'm thinking about it!!!

on the ball, I admit that the rest of my month will be a whirlwind with
the onset of Mother's Day travels, swim team practice & meets, final

This is an apron for my boss's sweet 2-year old daughter who "hearts"
kitty-cats. She gets a sweet monogrammed apron with measuring spoons. I'm

I finished two projects in April. The first is the crochet blanket. Here it is with all of Molly's Volleyball girls.
And a box full of these. Ornaments. I bought the heart shaped foam bases after valentines day on clearance. 48 assorted size hearts for $1.07 total. Base coat with acrylic medium and cover with pattern tissue. Add doo-dads - a tassel - beaded hanger and tulle bow. Several nights worth of work, but still easy. The final fourish does not show very well in the picture. Fine mist spray glitter in a dark red. They were very simple and fairly quick to do.

Here's Mary Ann, bringing up the rear this month!
Big surprise that I made another altered book, isn't it? This one is for
my 16-year old cousin, so it lacks the grungy, shabby-chic appeal that my
others have. However, 16-year olds rarely appreciate that aesthetic, so I
altered my style for her sake! I used an artist's sketch book from the
local craft store that was only $6 (compared to the $15 to $20 for
scrapbooks). I included a note in the front (removable of course) that
gives suggestions about the stuff she can include in the book (letters
from friends, ticket stubs, photos, etc.), and I plan to wrap it up with a
bottle of acid-free glue!

I adore this idea. This is exactly what this blog was designed for - to inspire us and encourage us to complete some things. Both of my girls have tons of friends and this would be ideal for gifts for them. Oh - btw - I would take a workshop you taught. Teresa

I made 6 pin cushions for my April project. Not sure who these are for just yet, but I figure its always good to have some extra little gifts on hand. I'm also working on some knitting projects that are taking longer than expected, so they will have to be for May (they were supposed to be for March!!)

Libby shares some Christmas Traditions

In my last mailer, I asked some questions about traditions in the homes of the participants. Libby (Woodlands World) sent this in response.

Does Santa wrap gifts? Yep we always wrap father Christmas presents being very careful to choose a paper especially for them! Lots of them, we always have a large Gammon on Christmas Eve. Father Christmas brings "a stocking full of surprises" we give the good presents! I got fed up of him getting all the credit!!!!

Everyone has handmade "sacks" with their names on them!

Tree??? Definitely a live tree, you cannot beat the smell. I know people moan about all the needles but for goodness sake isn't that why we have a hoover!!!

Another new player joins us from the great southwest. Raesha, who's blog, my love, has been a daily read for me for quite some time now sent this email.

As for my list - here's what I have so far:) (I'm going to start with March for now:))

May - Quilted table runners for Mom and little sister
June - Mini scrapbook for hubby's parents
July - Finish quilt for Tammy (it's partially completed as of right now:))

hello ms. teresa - i apologize for getting my march update to you so late. the good news is that i have finished my april CIP already. nothing like two birds one stone right?

anyhow...

my march entry was suppose to be stuffed birds. what a disaster that turned out to be. i had to scrap that idea and start from scratch so i ended up doing something that was quick and easy but will serve me well come christmas time. i covered a ton of match boxes with decorative paper. i had an idea of what to put in these little cuties a while ago but needed to finish the boxes. these are a great way to use up scraps of wrapping paper you have laying around after christmas. you can use them as stocking stuffers or punch a whole in the drawer of the box, string a ribbon through and Voila a christmas ornament. Easy and Fun!

my april entry is linen flower necklaces. saw this in a japanese craft book and had to try it. i had so much fun making these that i got a little crazy. i now have so many that i even have a few to put in my etsy shop AND keep one for myself.

here are the answers to you christmas questions. by the way thank you for the cutest bird which will become a christmas ornament for our tree and the other goodies you sent (sorry that my thank you is so very untimely)

ANSWERS

santa does NOT wrap the gifts in our house. mostly because if i had to use our wrapping paper my daughter would say, mommy that is our wrapping paper. i know some people get "special wrapping paper" for santa presents but during the holidays i am just not that organized. my luck i would run out at midnight on christmas eve.

christmas traditions i hope my children take into adulthood are that family is the most important. presents are secondary. also that handmade presents are the best kind.

store bought stockings only because my sewing skill level isn't at handmade yet. i hope in the coming years it will be. i would love to make stockings for my family.

live or artificial tree? oh this is something that i am going to be struggling with this year. in my effort to be more eco-friendly artificial is the best way to go. but ohhh that christmas tree smell, you just can't beat it. we do recycle our tree every year.

this was fun. i am so enjoying this CIP teresa. i have to say it is one of my favorite things i have ever been a part of. thank you again for being our fearless leader. you are wonderful and supportive :)

Hi Teresa! Happy Easter.

I am finally organized enough to have your questions in front of me at the computer, so here goes:

Does Santa wrap gifts?
No. Santa just brings one (usually big) gift which is left unwrapped under the tree on on the fireplace mantel. The rest of the gifts are wrapped and are from mom and dad.

What tradition do you hope your children will take?
The love of spending time with family. That's the main one.

Stockings?
Handmade! When I lived in India my friend (also a Teresa) and I stayed up almost all night on Christmas Eve making and hanging stockings for all the ex-pats on staff. I still have mine and when I came home and got married, I made my husband (and now my children) ones in the same style. I love the buttons. The buttons on Tim's are from my grandmother and great-aunt's button boxes, the buttons on Aidin's are from Tim's grandma's button box and the buttons on Eliot's stocking are a combination.

Tree?
Always live. About six years ago we did put up the silver aluminum tree that came from my grandparents, complete with color wheel, but it just didn't make the house feel (or smell) like Christmas.

I hope that I'll soon have something to show for my Christmas projects. Maybe if I quit signing up for swaps and other challenges, I'd do better. ;)

I have on my list an afghan for best friend. It is so close to finished that I am posting it as my March contribution. It is definitely a scrappy project and I have not made a single additional purchase for this project. I will post a "styled" photo of it after I finish the edges over the weekend.

I am also excited to say that I am almost 1/2 way finished with part of my April task - so finally I am ahead of the game.

I am so glad you all are playing with us.

Now I just have to come up with a place to keep these finished items until Christmas.

Hi Teresa,

I feel terrible!! I received your package of goodies last week and I thought I sent you an email but when I checked I couldn't find one. I did acknowledge it on my blog and I guess I thought I had sent the email. I apologize. That was so nice of you to send all those goodies. Your little bird is so cute, and I love the little gift bag/box. In fact I'm going to use it as a template to make more!!

I'm sending along some photos of a couple of scarves I managed to finish this month. I'm still working on a large afghan for my daughter (I started it a year ago, I think!!) and hopefully will have some progress to show next month. I have photos on flickr of the beginnings of it. It's done in crocheted circles....not like anything I've ever done before....and it's all in black and white. My daughter is into anything retro!

The furry scarf was done on the knitting loom and the red scarf was knitted in plain garter stitch.... nothing fancy but I like to have things like this on hand as little extras for Christmas gifts.

I'm sending two versions of each scarf so use whichever one you like. I sized them for use on the web so they shouldn't be too big.

Hi Teresa!

Here is a project I finished for April!

Okay, these are as basic as you can get, but I made them for my little nephew Oliver and his future baby brother for Christmas. My little Cole has a cozy fleece blanket similar to these, that Oliver always tries to swipe whne he is at our house. Oliver and his baby brother have the most darling cowboy room that the blankets will be perfect with! I found the fleece at Wal-Mart for $4.00 a yard! $16.00 and two happy babies!

I will send photos of my other project which is in the works, but not quite finished. I thought I would make felt flower pins for friends, but when I boiled the wool, the colors bled and now I want to start over because they look muted and dirty! That might end up being a May project!!

Hi Teresa,
Here's my March progress so far. Two padlocked boxes (for the nephews) and two knitted beanies (for Dad and ...???).
How's this for an idea? I'm going to keep making gifts with specific people in mind, but when I'm done I'm going to post pictures of them all on the web and ask my family to pick which gift they would like. Why? Well, I spend so much time and effort thinking about and making gifts, that I'm mortified by the idea of having a "miss" rather than a "hit". If people choose their own, then it's sure to be a hit, right? And I'll learn more about what my loved ones are most attracted to (colours, styles, practical vs. decorative, etc).
My family is all in Australia so they won't actually see any of the items until they open them on Christmas Day, so there will still be an element of surprise. So far I've only asked my sister what she thought of my plan; she was most enthusiastic. I'll let you know how it goes!

I finished these back before Valentine's Day, and then totally forgot about them.

My original attention was to make some stand up Nativity Puzzles. Although they are now not stand up puzzles. The pattern was a little bigger than I thought. I cut them out of 1/2 inch pine and they really aren't thick enough to stand up on their own. They do, but they wobble. I should have used 1 & 1/2 inch wood. I wanted them to stand up, so they could be a decoraton as well. Now they are just regular lay flat puzzles.

There's a star, Mary and Joseph, the Manger and an animal - not sure what type of animal. Let's just say it's very stylistic. The pieces are large so they are suitable for little hands, and too big for little mouths.

As March is almost half over and I haven't started anything, maybe I'll make some more using a smaller pattern and thicker wood. We'll see.

A victorian Christmas. Just look at these from Ms. Janet at JKBEES. She sends this note with her photo.

"Here are some little crochet ornaments I'm working on for a friend. She likes Victorian things which is not my style but I thought these little ornaments would be nice for her tree. She uses lots of handmade things every year.

I'm also just beginning an altered book for my daughter but I really don't have much to show on it. I've just removed some of the pages and gessoed the front and back covers. I have several journals in the planning stage so hopefully later this month I'll have pictures of at least one of them!!

This collage is for my Aunt (my dad's sister) My Dad passed away when I was 15, so this collage is very important to me. I didn't want to rush it just to meet the deadline. So the elements are all here just not adhered to the canvas. I will not be posting this on my blog since my aunt visits often. My February Christmas in Progress goal is complete! It is a soldered pendant necklace for my mom. She is an amazing quilter so I decided to make a log cabin pattern in paper collage for the front. The back is made from some borrowed words from an old dictionary. The necklace is made from a dense brown string that is adjustable (thanks to my husband's fancy knot-tying skills!)

Roxanne - I really want to make some soldered items myself. The soldering it not a challenge for me because I used to repair circuit boards. I just do not need ANOTHER craft obsession. This is beautiful. Teresa

Hi Teresa!

Here is my belated January project! It turned out so nice I am going to make several more for family!

I also am going to make two or three wine cork boards this year. One for my father in law (since he supplies the corks) and another for some friends in Portland. I attached a photo of one I made for my husband when we were dating for Christmas.

I feel so good getting one project done! Thank you so much for setting up this group! I am starting another shadow box today!!

Yeah I actually managed to complete #1 on my list. I wasn't sure that Iwould, I thought it might carry over to February. Now I have hundreds(okay, so that might be a bit of an exaggeration) of mini Santas andReindeer in my living room.I have four sets of Noughts and Crosses (Tic Tac Toe). The Santas andReindeer are made from Fimo, and I painted some wood plaques from the local craft store to make the game boards. I could/should have made them myself on the scrollsaw, but I didn't. After making the first two sets I realised I now needed some way to box them, luckily I found two cute little Christmasgift boxes. Then I got smarter (that will make my English Teacher cringe) -I used wooden boxes. The pieces can be kept inside, and the lid is the gameboard.I also made ten sets of the santa and reindeer sitting on a snowflake - they will be place markers for Christmas Dinner. And lastly there are about 2 loose santas and 5 loose reindeer that wil goin boxes in advent calenders and/or as the gift in some Christmas crackers.Whoo hoo, now on to February.

My only question, where am I going to keep all this stuff for the next twelve months?

Rachael - These are sooooo cute. I haven't done any clay work at all. Seems to be my sister's strong suit. As for storage - I don't have a clue. I have a drawer in my kitchen that I use as a gift drawer. But I am not sure about all these things and where I am going to put mine. have fun. Teresa

Lori - Nutcrackers on parade

Hi, Teresa!

Here's what I've got done so far - which isn't much. A partial base coat of paint on two wooden nutcrackers. They look a little strange without the hair and beard! The purple and blue one will be for my daughter. The red and green one will be for my son.

Thanks again for organizing this! If I didn't have a deadline of something to show by today, these wouldn't get painted until Christmas eve, I'm sure.

I guess I need to update too

All of you know about my Mom. It has put some challenges on my ability to sit down for long and uninterrupted crafting time. However I have made some progress. And having a goal is important too. I knew some of my project were ambitious, so i have been working on the first one there. My Aunt's sampler. I have a good start and will probably take several months to finish this. Then I have ornaments going.

I made a peace-love-joy one for Vallen and I like the pattern so I made a few more. It makes it easy. Just finish one and copy it on the fabric. The small ornament in the hoop is my design. I made it up as I went and am almost finished there. I plan to chart this design and send it to you in one of the packages this year.

I have sent small goodies to those I have addresses for. Nothing much - just a little surprise. If you use any of the materials - please send the information to me too. I will post it here.

I am so happy to have all of you and I look forward to a wonderful year.

"Attached is the picture of my January goal. It is an infant sweater knitted from Baby Bee Pitter Patter Eyelash yarn. The pattern is the boat necksweater from Baby Knits for Beginners by Debbie Bliss. I'm not sure specifically who it is for yet, but it seems there are always new babies around at Christmas time to keep warm!
